Are Self-Defense Classes Worth the Cost?
Basic self-defense classes may range from $50 to $200 and depending on your region or specialized training programs, these courses could cost several hundred dollars or more. Because BOSTON NABCJ is a nonprofit, 501C3, community-based organization, we look to keep the cost at a minimum by utilizing our community resources to keep the cost down. I AM JUDE DAVID LLC is a national trainer and speaker with 12+ years working law enforcement / corrections.
Why spend the money? $50 can buy me gas, shoes and I can just watch YouTube.
Assault is something that’s difficult to talk about, especially when you live in areas where your desensitized to it. It’s difficult to measure the psychological and physical toll it takes on you and your mental health until you’re triggered and by that time, it’s too late. For this reason alone, self-defense training is more than worth the cost.
As much as Boston is a beautiful city, the women of Boston have to walk around on constant alert. Boston data and statistics has highlighted that the women in Boston, especially women of color and women living in the metro city, find themselves in a constant state of “having to worry” just stepping outside.
Building that Boston based knowledge helps you build your confidence within the city. When you’re confident, you respond better in situations where you need to use the skills you’ve learned. That confidence will also help decrease your stress levels and also allow you to actually relax a little more when you step outside.
Why do I need Self-defense – I can just carry a weapon!
Data shows most attacks happen in places weapons are not allowed or most likely not in reach. Also, what if you’re overpowered or your weapon is taken? What if your phone is unavailable? Carrying a weapon is a great form of self-defense however you don’t carry weapons with you all times. Learning the skill, you will need to be able to deescalate, defend and disengage can save your life.
